Internet CoursesApologiaAcademy is a new service of Apologia Educational Ministries, which will offer Internet courses beginning in the fall of 2009. The following subjects will be available. In the Science Department:

Apologia has provided science teachers for The Potter's School online courses since 2001. These same, experienced Apologia employees will teach the live Internet courses for the ApologiaAcademy Science Department, and Larry Blythe, M.A.A., the new director for the Academy, will teach the live Internet courses in the Bible, Apologetics, and Worldview Department. Dr. Jay Wile will make occasional appearances as a guest lecturer in the science courses. Please go to ApologiaAcademy for more information. The courses we write for the Science Department, are designed for independent study. In general, a large fraction of students do not need a teacher in order to understand our curriculum. If our materials are so "user-friendly," why have we decided to offer Internet courses? Well, there are several reasons: Bible Department addition. An important reason for offering live Internet courses is to fulfill our mission of providing products, resources, and services that help homeschool students and families learn, live, and defend the Christian faith. Our new Bible, Apologetics, and Worldview Department will accomplish that objective. We do the grading. If your student takes a live Internet course, you need not do anything (except supervise his or her laboratory experiments in the science courses). In both the Science Department and the Bible, Apologetics, and Worldview Department, we set up a schedule to which your student must adhere; we make sure that the student has completed the work; and we grade the tests. Some students learn better with an instructor. Although a large number of our students can work with our courses on their own, there are still those who cannot. If you are a parent who feels frustrated by trying to help your children in courses that you do not have the time to learn, we can be your student's teacher. Grade validation. Since we do the grading in the courses, you will receive a report card from us at the end of each semester. This serves as an independent evaluation of your student's performance. Thus, your student's transcript will contain grades from someone other than yourself. For some college admissions officers, that will be an important validation of your homeschooling. Personal Attention. Although we are happy to answer all student questions for free, taking live Internet courses through ApologiaAcademy will give your student more personal attention by the instructor. This will allow the course instructor to notice problems of which the student might not even be aware. In this way, academic difficulties can be dealt with before they become academic problems! Although we do not supply teachers for the schools listed below, they are options that can be considered. |
